How to Make Chondrus Crispus (Irish Moss) Gel from 2 oz Dried Sea Moss
Ingredients
- 2 oz dried Chondrus crispus (Irish Moss)
- Spring water or filtered water
- Optional: 1 key lime or lemon (for soaking)
Directions
1. Clean the Sea Moss
- Rinse the dried Irish Moss thoroughly under cool water to remove any sand, salt, or debris.
2. Soak
- Place the 2 oz Irish Moss in a large bowl.
- Cover with plenty of water (at least 4–6 cups).
- Add the juice of 1 key lime or lemon if desired.
- Soak for 8–12 hours or overnight. The moss will expand significantly and become soft.
3. Rinse Again
- Drain the soaking water.
- Rinse the softened Irish Moss thoroughly.
4. Blend
- Add the soaked Irish Moss to a blender.
- Add 2–3 cups of fresh water for a thick gel, or 3–4 cups for a thinner gel.
- Blend for 1–3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
5. Set the Gel
- Pour into glass jars.
- Refrigerate for 4–6 hours.
- The gel will thicken as it cools.
Yield
- 2 oz dried Irish Moss typically yields about 32–48 oz of gel, depending on how much water is used.
Suggested Use
- Take 1–2 tablespoons daily.
- Add to smoothies, herbal drinks, soups, teas, or use as a natural thickener.
